to access te ff-planners archives at topica, you must first be a registered user of the topica system. not to worry... topica is a very cool company that ethan and i and many other FnFers work at, and we wouldn't steer you wrong on this; at FnFs we've got your back just like we've got your back at topica, so we won't LET bad things happen at topica.
as listowners, we've made sure that these archives are only available to registered users at topica who are also subscribed to the list. since only people we know or can vouch for are subscribed to the list, we feel that's pretty good protection for our privacy.
there is one catch...you have to have access to a web browser and an email account. if you can do that, you can do all the following for yourself; if not, we can help you out if you contact one of us.
to access the archives, you have to be a registered user at topica. you can get to our home page, go to http://www.topica.com/ in the top left corner, there's an underlined hyperlink that says
Join in -- it's free!click on that, and you'll get to another page where you are asked to fill in some information about yourself. the most important things to fill out truly is your name and email address. if you are already subscribed to ff-planners, be sure to use the same email address that you use to receive your ff-planners email.
after filling out the form, click on the button at the bottom of the page that says "Continue". after a bit of behind the scenes work, you'll get to another page that let's you know about your account at topica, and asks you to check your mail in a few minutes. if you do just that, you'll have received a piece of email from topica that asks you to confirm your registration. topica does that because we want to be sure they can reach your address, and also get at least a hint that the person who registered your address is really you.
when you receive the email, you must "reply to the sender". that's because the email is sent from a special address at topica that will automatically set you up on the topica system when topica receives that email.
when topica *does* receive your reply, it will do some more behind the scenes work to set you up in their database. after that's done, you will get another email from topica confirming your registration.
if you are not subscribed to the list already, you'll have to subscribe to it. you can do that by going to the following URL, http://www.topica.com/lists/ff-planners@fnf.org and then clicking on the button that says "Subscribe to this List".
you'll have to fill out another form (last one!) about how you'd like to receive the list (via email or the web are the two most common choices). Click on the "Continue" button at the bottom of the page, and that's it...you're subscribed.
at this point, you are subscribed to the list AND registered at topica, so you can see the entire archives.
now, you can go back to the topica home page and log in as a member, and voila, you can now get to the archives by clicking on the link at the top of the page that says ff-planners.
and that's how to get to the ff-planners archives at topica.

If any of us could, we'd already be enlightened instead of crawling around the muck like most of us presently are. The whole point to having a community is the support it provides when one (or many!) of us goes right the fuck off the deep end.
Can it suck peeling your friends off the cosmic pavement? Yes. But would you rather have the cops doing it, or the resident in the psych ward at SF General? I don't think so. It's no cooincidence that people whig out on us, in fact there's a specific reason why they CHOOSE us to whig out on - beacuse they (we!) feel safe in our midst. I wouldn't trade this for the world.
It's too bad that a lot of us are a bit tweeked right now, ie scared, lonely, desperate, confused, etc., but suggesting that anyone incapable of repressing their emotional shit should just stay at home is fucked. We, in all our various states of psychic undress, need each other.
Your post leaves me very concerned that having just read it, someone among us might stay at home alone instead of coming to us, perhaps completely insane, for support they needed. The potential consequences of such a choice for that individual and for us as a community suck.
I've had experiences - with people here, our friends - helping get them back from some very scary places, during which, I had the most palpable sense of being hand to hand in a desperate fight against evil, and yes I mean evil, where I thought that if I didn't get them back we would lose their spirit to some dark and horrible fucking tragedy. It was anything but fun, but all I can say in retrospect is: thank god I was there when I was.
This shit is no joke. People kill themselves because they're lonely or scared, or feel like they can't be themselves. I think one of FnF's true triumphs has been the extent to which people have felt safe enough to let themselves, their real selves, out. And yes we're all a bit messy, but so what if we we have to clean up after each other now and then.
The party is already over, in fact it ended a long time ago. To me, this community has very little to do with throwing parties these days, but it has everything to do with seeing whether we are actually able - when the blacklights are off - to help each other build real, lasting, and meaningfull selves, friendships and families. It's a tall order, but I can't think of any group of people I'd rather attempt it with.
I love you - all of you, you furry, freaky, fucked-up wonderful people. don't ever stop.

Subject: Re: [fnf] second difficult trip in a row. go ahead and kill me...In case it wasn't clear from my last post, I take a pretty metaphysical view towards the root causes of drug consumption.
I saw no problems with drug abuse this weekend. I saw plenty of people struggling with basic human issues, some of which manifested through (actually very moderate) drug use, but abuse of any given substance or combination of substances was not IMO, the root cause of what greg experienced this weekend. Same for magic.
That said, moderation is sitll a good thing, especially if you're hangin by a thread.

I will happily grow this page in whatever way the list doesn't hate!
